End of a hobby

I hung my golf clubs up 7 years ago with the advent of Kids. However, now as time is appearing again I'm glad i didn't sell up.
A few sessions at the driving range and my interest is re emerging.
Selling stuff you have (& paid for) IMO means keep it unless you really have to liquidate it.

If I dont sell them then I'll play again! A mate will call and ask if I fancy a round, I'll think 'well, it may be better this time' and then I'll waste another 4 hours and £20 when that time and money could be far better spent doing something I enjoy ;)

Golf and fishing eh.

I hung up my skateboard a few years ago. I was never great but i enjoyed it, probably the social aspect more than anything.

I don't bounce anymore.

Golf is just a waste of good land IMHO, accidently rode onto a Golf course earlier today, got some dagger looks

Packed in table tennis after having played since I was 15 and i'm now 51, also took the coaching courses, but haven't done that for ages either.

Got to the point where I couldn't just play for fun, all clubs want you to play competitively rather than just for enjoyment once you reach a certain level.

Not into all the inquests when people lose or others spending a fortune on copying the pros with expensive rubber and gluing up (trust me its nothing kinky or sinister, just a way of making a bat play differently)

Lost all pleasure in the game, more to do with people than the sport, always tried to encourage youngsters and was appalled at adults trying to slaughter young newcomers to the game
Knew I had to pack up when I did the same to one of the unsporting persons mentioned above, felt I had lowered myself to their level albeit tinged with pleasure humiliating them in front of their team mates

Back to messing with and riding my bike, quite into photography as well so not all bad

It's good to have other hobbys though, i play the guitar (badly) and mess with old cars, when one hobby gets a bit much i just switch to one of the the others.

.

I used to do a huge amount of sea fishing from the shore. I had practically given up due to work and more biking.
Then my mate lent me a good quality travel rod which fits into a medium sized racksack and allows me to cycle to 4 or 5 of my favorite fishing spots, fish for 4-5 hours and thencycle home :D

With me it's the other way around. Mountain biking is one of my many hobbies i gave up for playing basketball. This year i will be playing my 24th season and i still love everything about this sport but i think life is too short for being such an one dimensional fool. So i decided to do gain some of my old habbits back like biking, table tennis and making music and it feels fantastic.
➡️ Diversify your interests.

Gave up motorbikes as a hobby through no money and increasing fear, I still ride a scooter but its a neccesary evil not an enjoyment exercise. Bizarely I've crashed and hurt myself more on mtbs but keep getting back on

Due to ill health I gave up Korfball, a team sport I was reasonable at, look it up on google, too complex to explain, that was a sad day :(

Glad I gave up an interest in guns and targget shooting. Being an anorak about calibres, cyclic rates of fire etc tends not to endeer you to folk who often start seeking the quickest exit

I was into cycling for years and years. I drifted away after uni (and I still dont know how and why) and was then into rc car racing for years and years.

Got back into cycling after discovering radbmx and dropped rc cars like a stone.....and again dont know why as I loved it...Glad I did though...I weight 8 stone less for it!
