Ebays new suggested prices for sellers - Dawes Galaxy madness 2025 edition

The newish ebay suggested prices algo seems to be upping the ante on certain bikes in a spectacular way. Of course, the suggestions are there to be overruled by a clued up human.

I'm not sure in a month of Sundays the bot would suggest this price. so I am perhaps being unfair. Seller looking to recoup 75% of build price - a price that includes the used frame at £300 (orly?) and £500 for the builder's time (!).

Just £924.72 bags you this beauty.

I suppose its possible with a long running product name like 'Dawes Galaxy' you can get this - the algo can't determine the difference between one made last week and one made 40 years ago - and suggests a crazy price.

eBay’s suggested prices are about 99% of the time absolutely useless. I’m sure they must be responsible for some of the crazy prices out there (never underestimate the laziness of many sellers).

We seem to be in a place where the bedrock price of a bikes suggested by the bay is at a stratopheric level. That means even if you don't accept the suggested price you do your own reasearch and find those prices (also suggested) are also crazy high. So you stick with a high price.

I started this thread in a ranty mood and the same day started to see quite reasonably priced iron on ebay again 😁...just not Dawes Galaxy or Super Galaxy. Totally realise I'm a stuck record on this!

£500 to assemble a bike? £500? Really?

What's it being assembled with, drivel?

How about internal hoses through the headset bearings and awkward tubeless tyres...

Go for loose ball bearings and adjustable cones from the headset right down to the pedals, or afull sus with 14 bearings to identify and insert correctly...
double wheel build straight pull onto mavic 819s with an asymmetric 2x3x pattern😉

Are we nearly there yet?

An old galaxy though, 2hr tops.

Maybe they charge 250/hr?
