eBay To Block Sale of E-Bikes

'd8mok's libertarian offshore e-bikes trading co' does have a certain ring to it

Seriously though.. if you go with that company name, i do expect a dividend !

I also wonder if it's due to eBay getting a huge amount of complaints / returns / disputes to handle in addition to the shady nature of many deals.

I've been keen to buy eBike stuff for my wife, but most of the eBay things don't inspire confidence. Buy a wheel secondhand: does the motor work, is the connector compatible, is the cable long enough etc etc etc?

I suspect it about accountability when something goes wrong.

All the new rules which I mentioned before change a lot for online sellers.

If you are a business selling on eBay / Amazon etc you need insurance which has them named on the policy.

So many sellers don’t even realise that they should have it , but also have them named.

When it all goes wrong , eBay will be coming for someone’s house.

sorry, haven't read the whole thread but my view is anything that restricts these awful hunks of crap is a good thing as far as i am concerned, i hope other websites will follow suit.
I agree 100% about the horrid 20" Fat Bikes which weigh 40kgs and the Deliveroo nasties.
All this should get us to a place where the decent ones with Bosch motors etc in the bottom bracket just become another category - and that bike shops then have enough stability in designs to be able to service them profitably.

Having done a tour recently where the wives rode rented ebikes was a revelation and everyone enjoyed themselves.

There was something like stability in designs before the bottom bracket motor came along with dedicated frame mounts - particularly with conversion kits. You simply swapped out a front or back wheel. And even dedicated ebikes looked remarkably like normal bikes.

As the owner of one of the Chinese cheapies - which doesn't go over 15.5mph and is 250w, I'm all in favour of letting a thousand flowers bloom when it comes to innovation in this area. Some look at ebikes as an affront to cycling, but for most it's simply an affordable way of getting around. It's the difference between a "cyclist" and someone who just uses a bike.

I don't especially give a rats arse if someone is riding a bike sensibly what its output is, what the motor is, whether its got a throttle or not - and really nor should anyone else. We need cheap and clean transport solutions and I'd rather see a deliveroo guy on a souped up ebike or escooter than in an old wreck of a car or a stinky noisy moped. And you are bloody dreaming if you think they are going to do the job on a normal bike. Buying a £1K+ ebike should not the only way of getting access to these kinds of cheap clean transport. It just smacks of classism.

The police surely have better things to do than stop commuters just trying to get to work or food delivery peeps just trying to earn a crust. Some of the crap they are talking in this video is not within their remit.

I had one of those and it got me back into cycling after injury, I've since got rid of it and am back on a "proper" bike.
100% agree that its better than driving an old banger car around. A few people even gave me abuse for riding an E-bike, I've had lots of surgery on my legs and was much more unfit than I am now... I do wonder why they weren't abusing the people driving past who didn't have to pedal at all and took up all that room but even pedal assist E-bikes that some people may need to cycle get lots of hate.

I loved mine even though it was terrible and it was still a workout especially on climbs, got me out in the fresh air and got me back into cycling.
But haters gonna hate.
