Which thread might you be refering to??? ;)

Steve

Don't bring that whining mess of a thread over here, dude. I lurk enough on the VRC to see what a pot stirrer you are. Let's keep things above that crap here.

this thread is rather pointless, been covered 100's of times elsewhere

I vote to lock it down

Have made offers and bought twice but only when there were no bids. Ended one early once because the buyer was off shore and not from one of the countries in my shipping bucket and it wouldn't allow him to hit the BIN and checkout on his side of the pond.

If it's something I want I will always ask. Nothing dishonest or problematic or anything that ebay needs to 'solve'. If you want something and the seller thinks that the amount you are offering is suitable then who looses? Buyer=happy, seller =happy, only people unhappy are the people who believe that its 'just not cricket, who in my eyes just didn't want the item enough to contact the seller. These will be the same grumpy people who will watch something without bidding until the last seconds. If you think that somethings going to be pulled then bid high early as this will reduce the chance of the seller thinking no ones interested.

Ebay is a marketplace, it's not some social experiment in politeness. In marketplaces money talks not manners.

I hope your not referring to me, if so I think that you've got me confused with someone else :?

Thanks for your opinion mrorange. I started this thread because I was interested in what others do. I apologise if it's covering old ground but I was curious. feel free to not post then check back and post again in this pointless thread ;)

to all others who have participated, thank you for your input. It seems that making offers outside of the auction is just the norm now and has simply become part if the way things are on eBay. Plus I just wanted a little check on my own moral compass

I've sold a fair amount of stuff on ebay.

Sometimes you get a few offers of money, but normally the item sells for more anyway.

I advertised a gearbox once, and got a badly worded message offering me £700 for it. I had estimated that it was worth £500 at the very most.
A thought about it for a while and eventually decided to accept. He paid (after loads of messing about with bank problems) a deposit into my Paypal account.
A week or so later he was due to pick it up, I had several messages saying that he's crashed/couldn't find me. I eventually met him in my street at 2am, he had driven from Germany, crashed in this country and had to replace the radiator at a garage. They were 2 of the biggest people I've ever seen, and possibly a bit crazy. After paying in cash they drove back to the south coast to get the euro tunnel. Crazy!

I've also had people telling me I'm stupid not to accept their buy it now offers!

I feel I have every right to defend myself against stupidity.

If you need a public thread to see if your moral compass is working something is obviously wrong with you and you should go to church on more than Sunday. :D

and judgining by the poll, I am right

And you have illustrated clearly why I do not post here very much anymore
