Never, but it's more because I hate when people ask me when I'm selling things. Especially when they contact you with a price and then want to start haggling. Just bid on the bloody thing.

For good or bad, it is how the real world works.

I personally rarely give in or do it . . . even though this has been happening since the start of ePay.

I give in only with much thought, and right now my economic situation is dire

In light of ePay's new pricing system starting next month, I'm afraid more of this will be happening. Huge increases on final value fees.

Especially on bigger ticket items.

This is actually a very old issue. No real way consensus can be made on this.

Yawn.

It really P***es me off when an item I was watching disappears due to an under the counter bid. If this happens, I usually contact the seller to "hope it was in excess of the £xxxx I was willing to bid. " Sometimes they get back to me offering it at that price, and it gets very messy for them!
I learnt a long time ago to let auctions run their course. I was selling some skateboard wheels from '76. A buyer offered me £25, then £50, then £75. They finally went(not to him) at over £200.
I do still ask if they have a BIN price. If they do, and you want the item badly enough, you have to play their game, or someone else will! I did buy a brand new pair of Hope C2's not so long ago, for £65, this way.
It usually does rebound on the seller! :p

I couldn't agree more! If i was prepared to accept offers i would have put 'or best offer' on the bloody description!!!!!!!

How i see it is, if someone makes you an offer to end early then they have an idea that it's worth, which is probably more than i first thought. I will always let an auction run to the end, if you're worried about the item going for less than it's worth start at a higher price or buy it now or best offer. It worked for me i had a burner for sale ,it sold for £265 but the person messed me about something chronic, so did the next person in line so i put it back on ebay for £350 buy it now or best offer and sold it for £300 in just over 24hours!!!

Never for me. If someone makes me an offer I just tell them to bid as they may get it cheaper then the price they've offered. If it goes above then happy days for me!

I have also started using BIN or best offer when selling some items and that seems to work ok.

Compared to the bad old days of newspaper classifieds etc, Ebay is an absolute blessing, so I think you should play the game.

Being a lazy bastard and not having to go shopping (hate hate hate) makes it even better.

I think it is bad form to pull an auction if bids are in place, but I will and do make offers if it is a BIN item or no bids are in place.
Equally I will pull my Ebay items using the same criteria.
Lets face it, Ebay isn't a Gentlemans Club
