eBay and Paypal fees...

Hey,

So I've sold a few things on ebay ranging form some Ram at £10 or so to a UMPC for £160... now all the buyers have paid me via paypal but it seems that they haven't included the paypal fees... See photo...

Now is that right? Should I expect them to pay the fees?

Haven't sold anything for a while so can't really remember!

Thanks!

yeah i wouldve thought so unless agreed otherwise
i see it as them paying for their protection?

its either that or charge a bit more so you dont get a not so good amount due to the fees

if it sold at £215 then i believe you should recieve £215, no less.

you could let it slide this time and state it in your next listings?

saying that though
when you win an ebay auction, you pay the amount, no more, does the seller recieve it all? i cant remember, i dont sell much :?

ebay fees and paypal fees - seems to add up i guess

ok just check on a recent sale
seller gets charged fees :?

sorry to contradict myself

Thought so - will let it go for the others as its only pennies but its going to cost me the full £55 to post this to Italy so bonn ask him to pay the fees..

Just wanted to check that I wasn't being unreasonable..

edit
see above
sorry to confuse

but to carry on
as i said, now that you know, you will have to sell your items for a bit more to cover fees

Dagnammit....

Oh well - just have to remember to up the postage and packaging in future...

Cheers though!

Be careful on over charging for shipping (this may not apply to UK ebay):

to encourage sellers to keep shipping costs low, the Final Value Fee will be applied to the total amount of the sale--including shipping

yes we're paying more...again.

this has been put in place to encourage sellers to ship at cost and not hose the buyer.

Yeah had noticed that - however as I'm shipping form Jersey (which isn't Royal Mail) then they don't advise on what the charges are - realistically its not anymore than the UK but as least I have the choice...
Saying that though, even sending the UMPC from the UK to Italy it really will cost £54!!!!

Make sure you take out the insurance when posting to Italy, I don't think their postal systems is the greatest in he world.

You want to be covered if the item doesn't turn up and you end up refunding them.

It was a couple of years ago that ebay made it against thier rules that you are not allowed to say things like..please add 3% if paying by paypal. This meant all sellers who recieved payment through paypal had to pay the paypal fees

add to that ebays fees are about 10% of the final sale plus the advertising cost I rarely sell anything of value anymore due the the high cost of thier overall cut.

Gumtree maybe less of an audience but it has no fees before or after..but you do have to get the price right.

Ebay is best at what it does but with sellers also no longer able to leave negative feedbacks and dodgy buyers claiming back paypal payments at a whim it's just not as good for sellers as it once was
