Guys, being has though i'm hoping to join you next tuesday for my first ride, i thought i might ask a bit of advice. I'm aware that i am going to need some lights and at present have a set of Cateye ABS35. The problem is the batteries are nailed, and at £70 a set, i thought it might be better to buy something newer, lighter and brighter. Any suggestions? I've seen a Bikeray on the bay for £89 and 1280 lumens power, but with being out of the night riding link for a time i'm not sure if these would be good or powerful enough. Confused!! :roll:

Most of us use the 900 lumen Magicshine lightset but we don't buy it from this uk supplier due to price:

We tend to buy it cheaper from here:

But delivery can take 3 to 4 weeks.

The light you were looking at looks very similar to the Magicshine and if it is close that spec it will be suitable.

So it will be interesting to see how good it is.

I can lend you a light if you wish to order the cheaper one but I will not be there next week, perhaps someone else has a spare?

Certainly I think that any of these new lights will knock the spots off your old Cat Eyes...

It seems that 900 lumens in most cases is reasonably powerful enough. Dont know whether its worth spending an extra £30 for the extra couple of hundred lumens of power. Suppose it depends on what riding i will be doing.
