The lumen ratings are pretty unreliable.

The experts recon the 900 lumen lights are more like 600.

I rode with one helmet mounted Magicshine last winter with no problems at all, two are better, one on the handlebars, one on the helmet but by no means essential.

Based on that logic, two slightly less bright lights are better than one monster light.
 
John has a second set of the 900 lumen lights and will bring them along on Tuesday. There are always spare batteries if needed.

I manage with a bar mounted 900 lumen light. There is the odd occasion when I wish I had a second helmet mounted one (just before I hit the undergrowth) but generally the one does fine.
 
On the subject of lights I use USE Exposure units because they are self contained..no leads I use a Maxx d on the bars and a helmet mounted joystick and they work really well but alas are muchos pesetas
