Nice blast around on my 1993 Kili XTR Elite, pretty much catalogue except for the seat, bars, shifters and levers (I’ve never been a fan of combi’s).

love it.

Afternoon all

New to Retrobike and after some more information about a Saracen bike I have owned since the 80s. It has been my bike, my Dad's bike and now mine again. It's a survivor rather than a show queen but I am finally getting around to a spruce up and would like to know more about it. Can anyone help?

Nice find

Thanks. I actually wasn't looking for another Saracen as I already have a 1997 Kili Team. I was offering some of my unused frames on Facebook (frames that were too small for me) and an afficionado of Italian mtb's asked me if I was willing to swap my Cinelli frameset for one of his unused frames. This Kili Comp was one of them and I got charmed by the colour and the forks. :)

Here we are then, some more photos of my early 1980s Saracen. I bought this as an excited 13 year old in late 1985 or early 1986 from my local bike shop. it has been in my family since then. I used it until it was too small then replaced it with an Emmelle Cortina. My Dad kept the bike until 2018 when he passed away. He always loved the bike and used it across the fields, towpaths and to the village allotment. It has been well used over the years.

I am trying to find out what it is. There was never a model name on it, it's made of Saracen Hi-Tech tubing, rumoured to be a Reynolds product.
The components seem to date from 1983 as per the date stamps on the brake levers and derailleurs. It is mostly Suntour, with Dia Compe brakes, strong seat post.
Non original bits are saddle, handlebars and grips (I do have the original Nitto and SR combo), chainset? and pedals.

Legrandfromage seems to think it is Dave Yates built for Saracen, but I have no idea. Any info would be gratefully received as to the year, model, etc.

Many thanks

Not much - I know Saracen made a lot of non-regular model bikes.

There was one of these for sale in the North East recently.
