It's a 1" stem. For the paint job I used these guys:

Highly recommended by a lot of folk on here. Will probably cost £175. Powder coating definitely cheaper. But I'd look at it as having scored a frame worth £100+ for a tenner. So some how you've saved money! Well worth all those hours on eBay, Gumtree, Facebook etc 8)

Thanks Rod,

I've heard those guys are good. Was that 175 including the decals or just respray?

Re:

Respray, application of the decals and then a clear coat over the top. Decals were £25 ish from Gil.

I was in Bristol so dropped the frame off myself (cool little operation they have). I think it was another £15 for them to post it back. So approximately £215 all in. Not cheap.

You'll have to decide if it's worth it. Reckon you could get a good powder coating for £50-£100 and apply the decals yourself.

OK - so this is only really 'early' in the sense that any later it would have been a garish 40lb monstrosity, but:

Freshly built and surprisingly light for a Tufftrax at a shade over 24lbs! Worth it for the powder coat alone..

'Build' thread here:

Hi tjs,

Your Tufftrax looks lovely mate! Great build up there. I followed your link to the last thread. I love seeing the before and after pics. The tyres look brilliant, Charge Splashbacks right? How do they ride on tarmac and gravel type use? I went for some Halo H-Blocks on mine. I was after some new tanwalls that look retro but ride well. I'm over using old tyres on bikes I'm going to use properly. Going to google this tyre now.

Re:

Another added to the stable. Couldn't resist a local ebay 1989 double U Trekker so now I have this.

It's in very original condition and is in better nick then expected. I'm a bit torn with what to do with it as I planned to pinch the groupset for my mint Trekker and maybe fork too with the stem, saddle and bar going to the Traverse but the chap I got it from seemed sad to let it go, had had it from new and had many happy memories of touring Holland on it so it might be a shame to split it. :?

Needs a good clean up first so we'll see.

That's very nice! Would be a shame to slit it. I've had to do that on a couple of bikes and it feels a bit wrong, especially when the last owner emotionally waves it off!
