At what point do you finish a project?Needs a better chainset, the cantis are still 200gs so do I go v brake or lx cantis? Riser bars would improve it as would a new front wheel. The good news is all the big stuff is done and now it's smooth to ride and looks heaps better than it did.The banana bike is now eye catching so the days of locking it in certain areas are over cos round my way a lot of mates have lost bikes recently. So far it's cost me a lot of time and £150 but given me a lot of pleasure. It's saved my petrol to and from work so will eventually pay for itself.

Excellent choice! It all looks really right.

cheers Dave
The purpose is to build something from the early 90s but improve it with a bit of modern kit here and there. I like the frame and the paintjob of this bike in its original form but that's about it tbh.,they were built to a strict budget and most parts were heavy and aesthetically questionable.I am thinking with this build,"What could it have been? " and I intend to see how good it can get.Next summer it's gonna look the bomb when it's done hanging off the back of the car in Cornwall, that's the dream!

This may be sacrilege....... But I'm thinking of single-speeding it.

The diagonally slotted dropouts on those frames are a good option for single-speeding.
As seen on my 1990 Tufftrax.

As you can see, mine is no oil painting. A previous owner had some welding done to the dropout and partially resprayed in a shade of pink which is way off the original magenta colour.
It is period correct though and is great for trips to the shops.
