after some early 90s components, shimano thumb shifters 7 speed, either pace rc30/35s or manitou forks 1 inch steerer and a syncros cattle prod quill stem 1 inch, also either onza porcupine tyres or tioga psychos, TIA .

Have a nice set of Suntour 7/8 speed XC-Expert thumbies, these are much lighter and sleeker than Shimano and probably work better.
