Is it m5 or m6?
A knackered similar period/ quality shimano r mech...
Or if its m6, a vbrake pad nut?

I have a pot full of bolts from old mechs and such. Remind me if this is threaded or screws on to a thread captive on the mech, it's been a while since I've had my hands on a dx mech.

Tried the vbrake pad bolt but must be a M6 as it was to big, then tried a pinch bolt of a canti brake arm it fitted but wasnt deep enough to screw all the way down. Might just buy some open M5 nuts and washers, should work but wont look as pretty.

its a hex nut that scews on

I may well have one, but after being in my damp garage it will be rusty.
It's probably a common item. I looked up DX mech and found Cable Fixing Bolt Unit is 530-9804.
If you look up an LX or XT mech you will probably find it's the same part.

Thank you for looking into this, i ended up just using a old m5 nut which works fine. Just seen a few units for mad money on ebay...crazy!
