Can a pair of gear lever covers be printed if a pair of originals are supplied :?:

And

Can anyone on here do it :?:

The problem isn’t so much ‘can it be done?’ It’s the fact that it would take hours to draw up in 3D before production can start... and then wouldn’t the result be a bit too brittle? Or do you want them for show only?

**NB Maybe someone could 3D scan them?**

Re:

I am thinking about Campagnolo ones which are rarer than rocking horse droppings, it is the brittleness factor I worried about, I wondered if a softer compound was available :?:

Oh... now that might work..... but then. It’s still gonna cost a lot.... post a piccy of the ones you are talking about and I’ll have a little think...

No matter how many times it is explained to me, 3D printing???? Help!!

Re:

There are some 3D printers that use diff materials now that can make much stronger items.

Know a speaker designer making his own speaker cages 3D printed now (they need to be strong and stuff).

So yeah it’s probably getting to point it may be possible and useable. Hopefully someone in here will have some 3D printing experience and be able to give some good info.

Ok, now I know what you mean. To be honest, if you have a pair to copy from, it would probably be better to make a mould then cast new ones in colour matched polyurethane rubber, they would work exactly like the originals…. But then you still have moulding material costs and labour.
It would probably still be cheaper buying some NOS ones.
As for new and upcoming 3D materials, yeah there is stuff out there.. but you can’t get away from having to produce the items in 3D data first…of course after that’s done they could be as cheap as chips….
I’m currently working on some projects with these guys.. www.solve3d.com I’ll ask the boffins on Monday morning, see if they fancy a challenge!
