Dog collar - v-brakes

re chrome clip

Assume you were asking where I got the clip from ..... LBS (well not local but you know what I mean)
It is just an old style brake cable clip(what used to be used before brazed on lugs) which, after some explaining to the young lad in the LBS who had a puzzled look on his face as to what I wanted they managed to find in a box in the workshop.
I did find in a website, after typing in something like "brake cable clip" that does these,or ones very similar, though unfortunately I can't remember the site name.
Tried Halfords with no joy plus several other LBS's in Portsmouth and finally tried I think "Cycle Exchange" who had some. Not sure if they are a national shop or not.
I think I got a stainless allen bolt as the bolt with the clip was a cheap and nasty thing plus I seem to remember that it was a bit short for the top tube as well.

I think I remember 80's road bikes with this type of cable guide, which could explain why yours was a little short.

Sure its been mentioned before but I managed to get a chrome cable clip which I've located about 4/5" in front of seat tube (see attached photos).
Possibly even "more retro" than a dog collar.

Which size is, 28.6mm?

I am looking some like that for my 1994 Lava Dome.

Thanks!

Bit of a thread revival here, but I am trying to work out what size backstop I need for my 96 Lava Dome.

Caliper measures it to be 32.8mm, which is slightly over 1 1/4". This could be the result of an over-enthusiastic powder coater if larger than standard.

SJS lists numerous options- http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/down-tube-st ... pt668_pg1/ but the next size up would be 1 3/8" (34.9mm).

I don't really fancy a bit of tin/pressed steel, though a dog-collar type mount like the red one would work for me.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

I'd get the 31.8 size backstop - you can always sand down the inside slightly.

I'd always prefer "my" method though - it looks much neater than a horrible clumpy backstop.

I've got a kona for a hack/commuter now and I cant actually remember offhand what method I'm using on that one

Thanks CCE.

I actually prefer the Origin8 version, as it's a bit skinnier, and think perhaps I may be able to 'stretch' it a bit, otherwise sand/file the inside a tad, though I'd rather avoid that. Cheaper too.

I haven't seen those Origin8 ones before, but they look excellent - and cheap too. Your Lava Dome has a 31.8 top tube and I'm sure the actual size of the band on the clamp that they call 31.8 will be slightly bigger to allow for the thickness of the paint.

Even easier method is to use a full-length outer, held in place by a couple of the Dia-Compe cable clips in the photo's above...

They come in different sizes, and even pretty colours now

That's what I used for the Magura hose on my cro-mega; then used the redundant brake csble stops to run a top-pull front mech. instead of under the BB.
