Does anyone here have modern bikes?

actually, I did own some modern bikes 20 odd years ago. They had chains and cables and were made of exciting materials, they broke sometimes and some parts wore out quicker than others - hang on a mo, that sounds all too familiar...


nothings really changed enough to get me excited enough to go out and buy something new. Was lucky enough to have a go on this years bikes last year but only the Orange 5 got me going simply because it reminded me so much of my old Marin Mt. Vision, both had Hope discs despite some 14 years apart.

Yep, have as much modern as retro atm and ride them far more often. Currently have a 2009 Orange 5 and 2007 Orange Clockwork.

I have two modern bikes:

A 2007 Nishiki team frame of some sort for offroad. Got it as a fuselage with Manitou forks. I actually had a friend om mine build it for me with modern XT (don't even know the number on the modern stuff)....and some very nice Mavic Crosstrail wheels.

It's a nice bike that does the job but I have no feelings whatsoever about this bike........

....and yes......I also have a road bike. A Principia with Shimano 105 from 2008 or something.

Having had a poverty forced clear out at the end of last year my small fleet has only evolved a few years forward so nothing drastically modern since i got rid of my Salsa Moto Rapido last year.

This will mildly change when a Turner XCE frame lands and it gets built up with 9 sped XTR 952 pseudo modern. If i had th e spare funds i would have one - but i dont.

As a newbie to the forum I have to confess I have a couple of modern bikes & I love both of them for different reasons:
2012 Felt Z85 road bike
2007 Orange Evo6

But the bike that brought me to this forum is the '94 Specialized Rockhopper that I have owned since new
After spending the last 4yrs with a baby-seat attached to the rear, I finally took the plunge this year to strip the bike down and rebuild it as something different.
Initially I was going to build it as a fast hybrid type bike... slick tyres, flat bars and a road spec chainset!!!

Now I've got myself a proper road bike my thoughts are changing and I'm wondering about going down the SingleSpeed route. Opinions please.

Once I get myself sorted on here, I'll start a thread for my Rockhopper and post some pics of where its up to.

oh, and just remembered the wifes bike... a '95 Dave Hinde polished ally framed mtb that I built up in a couple of hours with cheap parts I had lying around, this will be getting upgraded (and posted on here) once my Hopper is finished.

I have a 2009 Saracen hardtail that I ride to work. It was cheap, it's reliable, if you throw it around on loose gravel you don't generally fall off (never had a bike before that you can lock up the front brake mid-corner and still make it around!) and it weighs 32lb....
