Does anyone here have modern bikes?

I went off-roading with my 1983 Raleigh Road Ace at the weekend down in Devon. Only problem I had was traction from Michelin World Tours and mud getting trapped betwixt tyre and mudguard.

I suppose it could be seen as a 29-er... :p

i have a 2000 specialized stumpjumper fsr that i have ridden about 3 times haha

just finished building a budget 29er to see what all the fuss is about. rolls well but got the gearing wrong so need a new chainring before i can really go off road

Yeah, I love my retro stuff, they tick loads of boxes regarding memories and the pleasure they give me, they are also a foothold into this site, which has made me loads of good mates and days out with like minded middle aged blokes, and is a beacon for how positive the internet can be........I wouldn't however be without my modern stuff too, fox forks and modern disc brakes have moved the game immeasurably forward, and my s-works road bike is just lovely and inspiring to ride......they all get attention and love!..... :D

I have 3 bikes , one is rideable, the modern , my 22 yr old MF has a cracked frame, the E3 is a growing pile of bits and the Stumpy just works, great to ride, handles well takes the shock out of the front so I can ride all day and I love it, it goes out regularly on retrobike rides and my local guys don't scowl at it too much (cheers chaps), my big concern is when I finally finish the Orange will I enjoy riding it.
At the end of the day a high end modern will be light as a high end retro is light whereas just as it was BITD the lower down the range you get the more the pounds add up.
It's all about going out for a ride with a group of mates and enjoying yourselves, yes we oggle each others bikes but it's not the be all and end all, what's the point of having a bike and not enjoying riding it be it retro or modern, it's a bike and its only purpose for existing is to be ridden.

I have a 91 Alpinestars Cromega I commute on, a 91(?) Saracen I built from scratch, for pootling about on sunny days, and a Norco Six SE for serious riding. There's no way I'd go down Jacob's Ladder or Cave Dale on the Cromega!

I've got a modern bike but it's a classic shape frame. The modern bits being the parts. Best of both worlds?

Only have a modern bike now - 150mm Specialized Pitch Pro. Rather enjoy the fact that it just works and short of World Cup DH tracks, will handle pretty much anything in the UK at significantly greater speed than I dare. Cycling is now about the riding rather than the bike for me. Love 711mm wide bars, long/low/slack geometry, discs that stop me on a sixpence, etc. Am now riding harder, faster and better than I ever have done before.

Will probably build up some sort of steel SS at some point though, probably a V-brake era Kona, but not too fussed anymore tbh!

I'll get my coat...

I've a pair of 2002-2003 Pace RC300's that is as modern as they get for me at the moment.

I tried the full bounce malarky in 2008 when I bought a brand new specialized epic, I tried over several years to like it but always found myself picking up a pace off the rack from preference, so it has now gone.

Oh I do have a 29er of sorts, an RC200 F8 running 700C rims with cross tyres on.
