I ask bcos about a month ago I bought a Hardrock 29er. Amazing bike with hydraulic discs which I love...BUT it weighs 33 pounds. I have just bought a Kona Lava dome 1993 which I see weighs 26 pounds. There is going to plus's n minuses to both. Should be interesting to see which I end up preferring.

thankfully no
walked into local bike shop all look very plastic looking, big 29 inch wheels, and all made in china or far east,,,im sure there great to ride just not for me,,,, :D

I bought a 29er with front shocks and absolutely loved it. Easier to ride, easier to go off road and absolutely brilliant....I sold it after 3 months

There was anything wrong with the bike it's just I found I missed having something to tinker with, play with and take a look back at being part of keeping something so old going.

Perhaps in many ways for me and I suspect some..it's about keeping their youth alive and nothing wrong with that if it brings a smile to your chops :D

Dam it!!! This is what I'm worrying about. I have been mountain biking for a bit over twenty years now. I bought the 29er bcos I had been with out a bike for a year and desperately wanted to get back out on the hills again. Then I remembered that I had wanted to get a 1993 kona. A bike I had adored when I was 12/13 but never had. I have just boughht a 1993 lava dome which gets delivered next week. Bet my Hardrock is going to be on eBay soon ha ha.

me, i have a modernish bike

I put my hands up, i have a modern bike...2005 bauer hot chilli frame (NZ brand). only thing original on it is the crank and headset! and it does have a retro part - NOS XTR M900 L/hand shifter! how does it ride, absolutly dead, no feel what so ever in it nothing about it inspires you to ride harder.. sad because its a stunner to look at.

it might be just me but the retro bikes actually feel more inspiring to ride???

This will surprise a few folks, but I have to confess that I recently built up a modern bike, it's a Yates 853 and the frame was made in 2002

Well, it's the most modern bike I have ;)

Yes, recently bought one and I have to say it's really nice, fun to ride and well just works, rolls so well and very light for it's category.
Islabike Beinn 20 Large. a 20"er is ace.

Picked up my new Zesty this week and I love it!! Sorry

Ha ha I love how people are apologising. Like an alcohol addiction clinic where people have given in and got drunk.

That pace is nice.

Glad to see others do have a mix of old and new. May use (and abuse) the specialized and use the kona a bit more carefully. Like rides out with the girlfriend.

I've got a range of bikes from the late 80's right up to an almost box fresh one

They're all listed in my signature below

All the mountain bikes weigh from ~24.5lbs to ~26.5lbs

Not bothered weighing the beer scooter (Falcon road bike)

They're all a blast to ride
