Seems to me the majority of riders on this site have always had a fair amount of parent's cash based on how many reasonable to quite nice bikes seem to have been their first
to add balance, mine was a 1988 24" wheel Universal with side-pull calipers, steel rims and 12 gears - did a lot of miles and many woodland, moorland and footpath jaunts.

Alternatively your all fibbers and are not prepared to own up to the cheapo POS that actually was your first bike ;)

Well i'll buck the trend :) , my first was a Raliegh Dakota which was a P.O.S, bought in 1990 for about £160 i think, had a Bomber before that but i dont think that's really a mountain bike, more Cruiser really.

Gave the Dakota to my sister about 17 years ago, as far as i know it's still buiried in her garage where it can stay for all eternity :)

Still have my 1991 Kona Lavadome. Restored to original condition with original tyres etc.

I still have my original Cannondale and some bits for it, this sounds like a great idea, though not a fan of the catalogue builds.

I don't have my first or second or third or fourth or fifth or sixth etc but many were of the 'what a heap of sh*** ' variety :D

I suppose that I'm in quite a minority then, insofar as I've only had five bikes and I still have (and use) all of them. None of them were/are heaps of shit either
Actually we have six bikes (3 x Kona, 3 x RM) but one of the RM's is my wife's, so I'm not counting that.

Fluo Yellow Townsend Country was the first bike. Had Exage Country.

Not sure if that counts.

Dad had the same - I think it had 501 main tuges and was lugged construction ?

My fist bike was a very cheap moutain bike, stolen a few years ago…  . But I still have first really good mountain bike, my cannondale EST ;) ;) (actually in respraying)

I suppose I do, but then again I don't. I still have my first 26" wheel mtb but my 22" wheel apollo triple triangle avalanche and 24" wheel scott junior racing have long since gone. My first mtb isnt really a keeper either, just an alu giant.

My first mountain bike was a POS Fuji Odessa...if I still had that thing I'd burn it to the ground and then slit my wrists.

I have my 13th bike (white EWR) , and replacements for my 4th (Beast of the East) and 5th (Klein Rascal.)
