Do you people wear helmets and gloves??

Some big crashes guys chrums. Has anyone used or giro helmets??

If you don't wear a helmet when you ride off road, you are an idiot.

Gloves are up to you but more than once they've saved the skin on my hands :)

What I have noticed is the crash hat wears are the ones who get very excitied over this subject. And try and force every one to wear a hat. But the non hat wearers are quite relaxed about the issue. :?

Not me Tony.....it's your head, you can do what you like to it ;)

Giro helmets are good, as are most mainstream brands, but the best helmet is one that fits your head, ie try before you buy. Don’t need to spend lots of ££s to get something good these days unless you want superlightweight / vented / fashion.

If you've got an old lid, make sure its not cracked as its a write off, also they do have a 'shelf life', I'd be less trusting of something over 5 years old, but it all depends on how its been looked after. (awaits someone to comment who's still riding with an Etto :D )

For what its worth I don’t ride without a helmet, I ride a lot in forests where you are as likely to get thwacked across the head by a branch as fall off.

Lets imagine that you and I go for a ride, you eat dirt in a big way and are left on the trail, blood pouring from your ears, chunk out of your head... unconscious. Is it fair of you to expect me to deal with that just because wearing a helmet offends your rights in some way? What about my rights as a fellow biker not to have to deal with a bloodied, unconscious bikers on the side of the trail?

MTBing is a dangerous sport and we should all expect to be injured at some point, but we have an obligation to our riding companions not to put them in the above position through our own negligence of personal safety. We don't need to go out padded up with back/neck braces etc, but a helmet really should be a given.

I'm relaxed about it, its your head, but I don't ride off road with people that don't wear helmets.

I think my giro is like the one in that link but good few years older, will have to go have a look i think it is yellow.

Colleague of mine recently had an off whilst commuting, hit his head. Result was coma, swelling of the brain and emergency surgery. Lucky sod got away with nothing more than a bald patch, short-term memory loss and a 6-day coma

He's back at work now but if he was wearing a helmet he would have picked himself up and carried on riding home. Instead he cost his family and friends 2 weeks of sickening worry, whatever £1000's of NHS treatment, untold long-term effects (hopefully none, but only time will tell), loss of self-confidence on a bike etc etc.

I'm sure most people would stop and help, whatever, but it's IMO it's selfish not to wear a helmet. It's your friends & family who will suffer if you're seriously injured. See Taulpaul's post...

It's good to be relaxed, but not to care...?
