Potts/Cunningham/WTB represents for me what old Bugatti represents in automobiles. The absolute summum, a seperate league in class. Especially with the authentic WTB kit of course.

Nail.

Head.

Couple of things for me though...

If (when) I build my ultimate ti. bike, I really like the idea of ti. post, stem, bars (maybe also forks but too sure 'bout that one) - all by the same builder.

No particular reason other than to give an holistic feel to the bike - all weld beads would match, the finish of the ti. on all parts would match... it would just seem to me more 'complete'.

Potts doesn't seem to offer ti. components (not sure if he offers them as specials?). If he did he would get my order without question.

I really like the Elysium frame, but I'm not sure about the aluminum mix in terms of the rear wishbone... just seems a bit unpure in some way... Reminds me of the old Raleighs (only for a split second) with their bonded lugs (forgetting for a second the Ultimate) which is not necessarily bad, but this is a modern dream bike we're talking about and such visions seem to age it in my mind for some reason - seems a bit of a compromise, maybe doing something for 'doings' sake... But the machining of the seatpost clamp, headtube etc... so very very nice...

Not keen on the new Merlins, despite all the technology and r&d they have going for them. As has been mentioned, they seem a bit too off-the-shelf for a 'dream bike'.

No others from the list appeal to me that much in all honesty... except... the Moots...

The Rigormootis, built with Moots controls is almost perfect... but that toptube! Can't quite accept it at the moment...

Sure I could get over it. Just think I'm a bit conventional when it comes to frames. I want simple triangles!

The seatpost though is beautiful, and the thought that's gone in to it really tickles me. I love the way it's left raw on the base so it doesn't scratch when moved in the tube, and the clamp and bolt look so clean and beautifully engineered...

In all, I think - but not 100% as I honestly haven't given it all the thought such a project deserves as it is a long way off - I would plump for the Moots Rigormootis, with Moots post, stem, bars, Rohloff set-up, all silver finish and some nice custom touches in terms of cable guide locations, seat clamp design, finishes to certain areas etc...

But that Potts...

Dream bike? Unlimited funds - (understanding that in this case it's not necessarily the most expensive option that will be chosen) - you'd get the Potts really wouldn't you and just have some custom controls made up...!!!

POTTS!

POTTS!

The Jones bikes are closest to EWR philosophy than the rest, in my eyes.

Just out off curiousity, what's the EWR philosophy :?:

Build somthin' ugli

just knew someone would come up with this

to be serious, think it's more something practical... a "users" bike or such. But correct me if I'm wrong

Everybody's a comedian... ;)

EWR philosohy, in that triangulation can serve as structure rather than straight tubes, creating strength and "ball-room to dance". That GT missed the boat when building more than 2 diamonds into their frames and still having crazy-high top tubes. :p

EWR and Jones (and a few others)...The Maserati Bird Cages of the bicycle world, if you will...

Granted, Jones and EWR are not necessarily direct competitors, rather, the Jones bikes have always reminded me of my EWRs. I've not played with a Jones frame first hand, but if I ever had 5 grand in cash just shoot from my ass I'd give Jones a call.

And yeah..."EWR" and "sexy" aren't often used in the same sentence...but then again, neither are "EWR" and "broken"!

...and my seat tubes don't rust...'Fat' Boy :p

I would love to have a blast on a Jones, already getting convinced by the funky handlebars, does he build them with 26" or is it 29er only?

If you are going to have an Ti custom made,...would you consider a 29"

i spoke to Steve Pott's and he would go for that 100%

Hi,
Jeff Jones if money was no object.
Or what I've got: a Commencal Ti Ltd Edition. Very tidy welds and a DeKerf style seat stay bridge - but with far more attention to detail. Comes with precision sliding drop-outs, d/b & ovalised main tubes, 6-4 head tube, b/b & drop-outs. Annodised 'decals'.
Not too expensive either.

Oops, second pic of it built up didn't stick to the post...

I was selling it due to a back injury, but the months of intensive J.K. therapy have imporved things so I can ride (and walk straight) again.

J.K. therapy?

Most US builders are more into 29ers or 650's than standard 26" mtb's nowadays.... just not as conservative as the europeans (on this field ;) )
I'll be rebuilding the GROOVY bigwheel with a Rohloff and give it a shot myself (being 6ft5.... 1.97cm) project will be finished in about 2/3 weeks.
Must admit that the 29er feels very natural for someone my size, not sure if the handling is something I'll like on short twisty singletracks though...... time will tell. And again if you would like to have a spin just drop me a line :D
