Disc Drive woes

You kidding me? Those retrobike socks look awesome!

The black look good but white? Man what were you thinking??? White is not a good mountain biking colour...

I'm also concerned about the number of school boy spelling mistakes in your posts too. With the time it takes to rebuild one I'd expect you to always spell Disk with a "K" - well it is in big letters on the side ;)

To be fair to the white socked man, Tioga spelt it wrong first... copying from Sugino Tension Disc.

I think these deserve to be built on XC Pro GreaseGuard hubs...

Thanks :) Black is ideal for mtb, I'd agree. Don't forget we also have a road section. White socks on the road are a must imho, we all know who populised black socks on the road....

Agree white socks too. But only for sport NOT for wearing with black trousers

The Pro disk(c) was 3/4 oz lighter

Should have had a non Shimano option  It's been an enjoyable read this thread.

Good skills John, I wouldnt know where to start.... And cheers for sharing too, for a lot of years i have fancied a disc drive, and only ever thought there were two versions, untill you pointed out the radial style...

Please excuse my naivety, but what is / was the point of disc drive wheels? Was it just aerodynamics, were they lighter, or was it a resilience / strength advantage? I must admit, they were slightly before I started getting into mountain bikes, or at least by the time I started learning about high-end stuff they were being phased out.

That said, I'm about to start a 1994/5-ish race rebuild and I'm kind of intrigued...
