ok firstly ive been absent from here for a while now trying to get my xr3i on the road for summer, so hello all. whilst doing so i managed to pick up a kona hahanna at a reasonable price. will need a powdercoat and some love but nothing serious, so heres the problem, it came with full 200gs groupset in good nick too. ok not the best but is it original spec? believe its a 93? also if it is original spec is it criminal to lace it with deore lx (a groupset for some unknown reason ive always had a passion for) basically....keep it real or spec it up? thanks

It's your bike, do what you like with it.

I just picked up a factory original Hahanna for my daughter. In tidying it up I put on some XT V-Brakes, LX levers and shifters and a brand new sealed bottom bracket. Why? Cos the BB was cream crackered and because the person who's going to ride it needs easy gear shifts and good brakes to ride around Bristol.

Someone else can build a museum piece, I built a cheap, sturdy, cool looking practical bike.

no i dont im afraid they are the sti units (if thats what they re called) but that said there is a pair of 200gs thumbies on ebay at the moment think they were £15 buy it now if that helps?

i love lx m56* stuff , great looking and fine functioning groupset imo, way way better than 200gs, go with the lx without a doubt

Personally, I don't think catalogue spec matters that much, unless it's something pretty special (either objectively, or to people individually).

200GS whilst functional, is heavy as hell, and most would have - over time perhaps - upgraded bits. LX isn't going to be out of place, so I say go for it.

We've all been there BITD, we've upgraded what the bike came with. Thus doing the upgrading even years after the original purchase is perfectly legitimate. As has been said, those that care about these things will build the original spec museum piece, that person does not need to be you
