Digital Vernier Calipers

I'm after some vernier calipers, I want digital and I want cheap There are plenty on Ebay for a tenner but can anyone vouch for them or suggest somewhere to get said item?

Can't see me using them often so don't want to pay out on a quality set....

i have a mitutoyo digimatic got them off my dad, ive been trained to use them and still dont trust myself with it!

I borrowed some cheapie ones from my Dad - that he got from Aldi for about 8 quid.

He's an engineering type and compared them with various micrometers etc. He felt that they were accurate to around 1/1000 of an inch.

Jerky who is an engineer said they are good enough ( and that's good enough for me ) its just the calibration that you need to keep an eye on .

Maplin did have some for a tenner, they have this one for 19.99 which i think is a little bigger.

I just bought 5 pairs of e-bay for 8.50 each all in, they've since raised the price to 9.99.
But there should be another company selling for around £8.50 all in from Guernsey I think, who I've bought from before.
Search by pice+p&p, then only in UK if you want reasonably quick delivery.

You'll see the hong kong ones for cheaper if you're prepared to wait a month or so.
They are sturdy, thick metal and will probably last long enough under casual use.

all the black style and the silver style are the same as the maplin ones and other places i've seen (silver). You get you measurement to within +-0.02mm which is excellent for casual use, you'll pay lot more to go to 3d.p. or to the screw gauge micrometers.

I had a £20 draper one years ago that I left with a mate , got one off the bay for a tenner posted and it was exactly the same .

For the pupils to use, vernier scales are a bit hard for them nowadays

Looked in the usual places and they are selling the same thing for £20 to £30, based on style on spec.. in fact the way the spec. read as well

I got digital because I'm crap with measurements , all the extra numbers on verniers baffle me
