Ive owned both expensive[£100] and cheap[£7]
The cheap ones dont lock off properly and the reading can move slightly, not critical as it only moves .+/- .0001. But annoying none the less and totally unsuitable for precision work.
Wish id never flogged the good ones :(

The "good" ones are rubbish for precision work, too. I have the stupid money ($300) carbide jaw SPC output 6" Mitutoyos. We jokingly refer to them as very-nears, as in the measurement you get will be very near to the actual dimension.

Get some vernieers you lazy buggers.
No problems with batteries going flat.Just my eyes going duff :(

There is very little that I measure that I need to worry about a thou' over 6 inches (that don't sound right).

However, that does not stop me taking them to work and being cal'd against our ref set once a year !

I have an old analogue set, and a cheapo eBay digi set. Keep coming back to the old set, and yes, the digi set does eat through batteries!

Anything with a battery is evil and will go wrong. I prefer string and a pencil for micro precision work. Never fails.
