Difference between Specialized M2 models...

I have an M2 metal matrix model, one of the first (certainly the first (only?) UK batch). It featured a seat post bolt mounted hanger for the rear brake (looked naff) and came in 2 shades of purple. (it is now black and silver splatter). 93/94??

I've just refitted the original cromoly forks, still in the original colours. Rides sweet enough :)

Not sure where this fits in with the OP though.

the early M2 frames took a different diameter size seat tube than the mid to later ones.

Also, the headtube was 1" on some of the early m2 stumpjumpers while it was 1 1/8 on the mid to later ones.

I had a 1992 M2 stumpjumper team with a 1" headtube and a 27.2 seatpost.

Yeah IIRC it was 95 that the seattube went larger and the headset to 1&1/8th. The extra gusseting didnt come until a few years later.
Was yours the silver with yelow decals?

Jamie

I had one of the first ever original M2 Frames into the UK which was in purple and featured the notorious "quick release" paint issue. Specialized UK did respray under warranty though and I got is sprayed Team Red with Yellow Decals.

This also had the smaller tube sizes.

Hi Jamie, was that question addressed to me or to the ts? No silver with yellow decals here.

Hi militiacore, welcome to the site :D
Probably a pain in the arse and a disapointment at the time but the red with yellow was a better looking machine, in my opinion, of course ;)
Hope you still have it.

Not anymore but my old neighbour still uses it on a regular basis.

I also had an S-Works Steel frame if you remember those. They came in Dark Metalic Green colour, almost like British Racing. Now this was THE 1st frame in the UK and got built up with loads of trick bits at the the time and then got stolen from the bike shop before I got the chance to ride it! The M2 was an insurance replacement. Great bike and I think we got it close to 20lbs which wasn't bad going!

Then around 6 months later it turned up at the same bike shop for a service and they recognised it instantly as it was very distinctive.

Before that I had a RockHopper Comp in the Dark Red/Purple colour and after the M2, a Roberts which I still have.

Does anyone know much about the difference with the geo on the M2s?

Would a 99 USA M2 be differento a 95/96 M2?

I'm looking to get a 99 USA M2 for a sort of JMC, Palmer dual slalom/Play bike/4x/ bike that I can ride most things on (apart from crazy downhill obviously).

I'm worried if the 99 M2 has geo more suited to XC.

So has the geo changed much? I can't find any figures online for the M2's geo.

I know Palmer rode a 99 M2 for slalom and team MBUK used to ride the M4 so I guess it must be fairly okay. Just wondering how drastic the changes to geo are.

Will Longden told me the M2/M4 geo is similar to the early Santa Cruz Chameleons. Anyone else find this?

Just to give an idea: http://media.photobucket.com/image/spec ... M2.jpg?o=1

This frame seems to have a slacker head angle than the later models. Maybe it's the forks though or maybe the fact that bike has riser bars on it which seems to make it look like that.

M2

Hi Emoco
The geometry from the M2 both 95/95 and 99 should be the same. Its the material that changed. In 99 the M4 was introduced, same geometry.
The S works hardtails are pure xc machines and I wouldnt be jumping one too much as they will crack readily.
Was sure Palmers dual slalom wasnt an Stumpy style S works. M2 is the material not the frame design as specialized use it for many applications such as dual suspension downhill but its designed for the job at hand and built accordingly.
