Did I make a mistake?! 1991 Kona Explosif

if the sum of the parts giving their condition were worth $100, i may have still picked it up. but i'm not into Kona so don't know their worth.

You can repair a brake post without welding. In much the same way as Bontrager use boss tubes that are not attached to the frame but are bolted on using a long hex bolt that bolts into a threaded base, you can buy repair bosses that bolt on using a hex bolt that attach to a nut placed behind the broken boss:

Normally worth using with a brake arch booster

I bought it for a kewl $70 with all the parts. Came with canti's, stem, crank, pedals, front and rear dearailleurs. Going to take it to DeKerf for repair sometime next week.

I added the stem, levers, and shifters.

That's what Kona called a size 18 in those times. i.e., the seat tube should measure 18" from the outside of the bb shell to the top of the seat tube. I think the top tube should be about 560mm c-c along the tube, and the head tube should be 130mm?

Kind of going to extremes there - pay $70 for all that, and then go to Chris Dekerf for the repair! Good luck with the cost.

I am officially a Kona whore! I received a phone call today from Chris DeKerf (on a otherwise shitty day!) that the frame was ready to go. Chris had not only repaired the canti post but painted the area for me. I didn't get a chance to take pictures but it was unreal walking into DeKerf and to see all the bikes hanging and being worked on by Chris himself! Hei Hei comes hopefully tomorrow so it brings my total of Kona's up to 4 + 1 (wife) + 1 (sister in law) = 6. Pics to come!

Well turned it into a SS to see what all the fuss was about FS`s and SS`s. I must say its pretty fun but it sucks when you need that other gear!! Cheers!
