Apex is usually True Temper AVR with double butted rear end/stays. The Ascent is usually AVR main frame & non specified rear stays. I would hazard a guess this may extend to fork blades also.
Axis was always OX tubes. The Axis & Apex shared the TT-lite tubeset for 94/95 if I am not mistaken.

Just under the seat tube / top tube junction there is a decal on the seat tube which states "100% Crmo MTN tubing". This might mean main triangle only as per your suggestion.

Axis had a True Temper OX frame. The Apex and Ascent had the same True Temper AVR frame. At least in 1992 anyway - I have an Ascent EX Ltd.

What did the LTD have that set it apart from the Ascent EX??
