Degreased chain

Needed to degrease a chain last night but didnt have any "proper" degreaser so tried some stuff I had to hand, sugar soap, washing up liquid etc but none did the job.......then I remembered we used to wash grease/oil/dirt off our hands with washing powder when I worked in a bike shop as a lad, tried powder on the chain with a stiff brush and it came up a treat - job done.

Anyone else tried this?

I always just put the chain in a jar full of White Spirit and leave it for 24 hours. Really easy

I hope you used a drop of lenor fabric conditioner to keep it fresh

White spirit in a robinsons bottle for me.....do the shake 'n' vac and hey presto!.......my bottle is 15 years old now and I'm quite attached to it!.....

A useful tip:
Instead of dissolving unwanted corpses in a bathful of acid, a la Dr Crippen, use biological washing powder. Apparently, within a week, even the bones are gone! :shock:
