So....I have an 88 Kona Fire Mountain, its a heavy old frame but fancy doing it up, the frame is stripped and I am not sure wether to remove the brazed on rack mounts on the seat stays and the drop out mounts that are part of the cast drop out.

Whats your opinion?

The bike will not go better without them, in fact it will become less useful, and you might make it weaker.

I would say yes - it makes it all look a lot cleaner.

I was unsure before I did it on my marin but seeing it done I am very happy with the results :)

I started a similar thread when I did it but had allready made my mind up ;-)

WD :)

Yeah man, chop it. Its pretty much worthless without its original splatter paintjob now anyway so make it your own and customise it.

my old boss did it on his 92 explosif, and i have to say if i ever get mine resprayed i will do mine but not until then. i should add that i will never use the bosses so that is the question you should ask yourself first.

:D

yes remove them! i did it and looks loads better, wont effect the frame at all, :D

You'd think so! But it only takes a little slip of the grinder, and it's bye bye seatstay.
I spoke to Chris at Edison's about brazing canti studs onto a U brake frame, and he said removing the old studs could make the frame weaker, so suggested I leave them on.
