Hi,
Stumbled across the site and been most interested by the retro chat - Started mountain biking as it started in uk with a Ridgeback followed by a Muddy Fox Courier, followed by a Muddy Fox Explorer.
Thought i'd share my treat to myself in the early 1990's. I headed off to see Mr Yates after riding a lot in Yorkshire with some of the MBUK wrekin' crew.
I like the bike but rarely ride these days - I guess for the right money I may think of letting it go.
Here's the spec.
Dave Yates Vulcan Custom in Black and purple fade. - Can supply dimensions and angles if its important.
Frame brazed up for Magura Hydrastop brakes, but using Kona Project 2 (P2) forks again with Magura hydrastops up front on Cantilever mounts including QR.
All top routed cables and hydra pipe work. Brass roller front mech for improved efficiency.
Shimano 600 headet, Tioga T bone stem - also have a flex stem for it. Topped off with Taperlite bars.
Shimano Deore XT Rear mech, Campag front mech, DeoreXT thumb shifters.
Beautiful Mavic crankset with Mavic sealed BB.
Ritchey seatpost, Titanium saddle.
Campag Contax rims built on Campag hubs by a god of a wheel builder Paul ????? who used to work at Ribble Cycles in Preston and then started his own shop out towards Chorley.
The bike is heaven to ride, more like a road bike on the road and certainly keeps you on your toes off road, its ok once your used to it but its twitchy at the front, but with some wait off the back of the saddle it just feels totally balanced.
Interested in whats its worth and also if anyone has any thoughts on whats available if I were to upgrade the front end to put suspension forks on it - not sure whats available that will fit?
Will add some pictures shortly.
