Dave Yates Vulcan - 20" - 1992.

I posted about 10 years ago my Dave Yates Vulcan which I will advertise for sale shortly. Question - currently it has tan wall Continental tyres on it from I think about 1995, I still have tyres from the build time (Spec Ground Control / Farmer John / Smoke / Specialized Nimbus etc). Thoughts on should I change tyres before advertising to make it "as built time". Also current view on how much?

Back story -

I started Mountain biking in 1986, Ridgeback bought from Madison in London, then onto a Muddy Fox Courier (written off in a crash), then onto an own build around a Muddy Fox Explorer frameset.From 86 onwards I setup Lancashire Mountain Bike club and also wrote some material in MBUK and did product tests etc.

I came across Dave Yates work when riding with Yorkshire Mountain Bike club where some riders where riding beautiful Dave Yates bikes.

Once I got a first decent job I went to meet Dave and agreed a build for me.I have the original paperwork for the build, build sheet, invoice, parts list and prices back at the time.

The bike cost me in March 1992 just over £1500 to build.I selected and bought all the other components for the build include wheels being built by Paul Hewitt (now Hewitt Cycles) who was still at Ribble Cycles in Preston who at the time and still is well known for stunning wheel builds.

Hopefully from the pictures you will pick up what the bike is built with component wise. But any questions please ask.I built the bike in late 92 and then - discovered cars and ladies. Hence the bike is in like new condition from 1992!!

I wouldn't like to guess at the exact price but they are very sought after and I'd have thought you'd at least get back what you paid for it.
 
Sadly, nothing is making the money it did. Your best hope would be to split it, but that seems a little sacrificial!

Its a nice bike, from a good maker, but the size and geometry will be a limiting factor I fear for many buyers. But, im sure there will be somebody out there.

I would put it up for £850, but expect to take on offer .

The other option is to hold onto it, in hope of a return to favour! But given that the people who remember older bikes are getting older themselves that may or may not be advisable.

Its a great bike and this is probably the place to sell it!

Thanks for that much appreciated. The "split" of it I have considered as interestingly the frame/fork interested from the States elevanted chainstay community seems stronger than demand for the whole bike.
