Things are about to move up a gear...

Santa (or a courier) should be delivering a few parcels next week.

I'm also looking to get some paint touched up plus get the forks resprayed - they are rusty in places. Should look great.

I'll keep you posted.

Re:

So Santa delivered a few ‘new’ bits today including these hubs. I decided I couldn’t justify a pair of Bullseyes even if I could find them. They’ve polished up rather well and will be built on a pair of Ritchey Vantage Comps. I can’t remember if I originally had Comps or Experts, but hey ho.

The chainset came off with a bit of brute force but the other side didn’t give up the battle. I’ve decided to let my LBS finish the job, as well as remove the bottom bracket. After all, what are the chances of a 25 year old BB not being stuck?

A few more essentials arrived today including a pair of Panaracer Dart / Smokes. I never tried these back in the day but happy to do so now.

Off to Butlers in Croydon tomorrow to get the wheels built and the stuck bits removed.

So as I have alluded to the Diablo is in need of a little paint in a couple of areas. Nothing major just a touch up.

Having checked colours online I ordered some paint and primer.

Today I decided to have a practice on an old pipe...

It was an interesting result. The primer and paint went on fine. Sadly the paint did not resemble the colour I chose. My can of lacquer also decided that it did not want to give a good result and now resides in the bin. I’m glad I had a test run.

My forks are getting a professional spray job due to being rusty so I’ll try and have a look at paint colour charts when I’m there.

Re:

So I now have a very nice set of new wheels for the Diablo and the old bottom bracket is out. As you can see I’d had my money’s worth.

I’ve started cleaning the rust off of the Project 2 forks myself. It’s coming off quite nicely with tin foil and white vinegar. I’m going down this route as the only quote for a respray just for the forks has been £200!

Ok, there has been some small progress.

It turns out some wally bought a set of 135mm hubs rather than 130mm and then found out that the new back wheel didn’t fit. Hmm.

Fortunately Geoff Roberts sorted me out. Geoff is well recommend and even showed me a couple of D.O.G.S.B.O.L.X. that he had in including one from 1989. I have a thing for fillet brazing so was drooling.

I’ve also bought some more paint to patch up the war wounds. I shall be testing the colours on my piece of pipe tomorrow.

After that it’s put it all back together and actually ride the Devil for the first time this millennium.

It’s too late now. Can’t be worse than scrapes and rust.

Re:

With the paint touched up to my requirements and leaving plenty of ‘patina’ the rebuild has commenced. :)
