Bizarrely the next three frames in the register are also Q650's made of Deda Zero, Zero TW (don't know what that is) and 653 respectively. Just shows what a variety of tubesets Dave used to use for his frames.

£500 ten years ago I would have said was proper money. I bought just the frame a couple of years ago and I seem to remember I paid about £220 for it, so I don't think you did badly, although, mine does have fancy paint. I don't ride mine nearly as much as I should, but it is a cracking bike and lots of fun on the road.

Well, thankyou very much for your help and I appreciate your point about the original price I bought it at. Happy that the material is a little exotic too.

I've now put this on for sale for £350 with Facebook Marketplace. I hope it will go to someone who appreciates it. Like you, I simply don't get out on it and it seems wrong for it to languish in my garage.

Hi everybody and a Happy New Year

I have a question for those who understand the Dave Lloyd scene.

A friend is offering me a steel, Concept 2000 frame. I love the way it looks but however I know very little about Dave Lloyd frames. When I type it into the net I can find plenty of fans and reference material to the Concept 90 but absolutely nothing about the Concept 2000. I was wondering why the Concept 2000 seems to have no fans / following but the 90 does.

Is the Concept 2000 worth buying or is it a poorly regarded replacement for the 90.

The Concept 2000 is a relatively rare beast, the register only shows six C'2000's, although it does show two Conc2's and two C2's, whether these are all the same frame is impossibly to tell but I doubt it as the C2 and Conc2 frames are all shown as being made of Cr-Mo, where the C'2000 frames are all made of either 01, HT or OHT, I am going to assume these are all Dedaccciai, a manufacturer I know Dave used as I have two frames here made of Deda tubing. I don't know for certain but I understand that the C2000 frames (and possibly the few Concept90's produced at the time) were made in Paul Donohue's workshop. The three examples I have seen, including the one in my garage were all of welded rather than fillet brazed construction.

Sorry to be a little vague, but I only have my own observations to go on plus a few tiny fragments of incomplete information that I have found on other websites.

You don't say how much your friend is wanting for the frame, unfortunately none of Dave's frames fetch nearly as much money as they should, although many of them sell quickly if priced right and if they have original paintwork, I would suggest that in good condition, no rust and not too many chips in the paint £175 to £250 would be sensible, the top price for an excellent frame with fancy paint.

Even though the frame will not have been made by Dave, it should have an LLxxxxxx type frame number under the bottom bracket, although mine hasn't.

That is fantastically helpful. Thank you very much. I think that may come as a bit of a shock to them as they wanted £300 and it’s not top notch. I will work on the price as it’s great to look at and really unique in these days of black and grey.

A really good guide for prices is to look up sold or completed listings on ebay, the shame there is that they only go back a few months, a few years would be more useful to us. Also just search google, you may get lucky with old listings on selling websites like Hilary Stone and other specialist sellers.

£300 is unfortunately top money even for a rare DL frame, I have paid a lot less than that for each of my DL frames... and I have erm, several, some of them with perfect paint.

It would be good to see another DL back on the road.... that said, my Concept 2000 is still a frameset with a stem, seatpost and saddle fitted. :facepalm:

The selling price of vintage frames seems to have been pretty soft for a while now. I'm a child of the 70's so tend to buy stuff a bit younger but bought a Carlton Pro frame this week for £30, the best bang per buck frame BITD..

I am constantly on the lookout for DL frames and unless it is exceptional, none of his frames sell for more than £300. People just will not pay money for them which is a great shame as although you have no way of knowing the ride quality of the frame until you build it, they are all beautifully designed and constructed.
