Cyclocross..tell me about it :-)

The main reasons crossers use cantis is that you cannot get V-brakes to work with conventional levers, and everyone likes the STI brake / shifter combos.

Mini-V's do work, but I'm not sure if you get clearance issues between the cable and large CX tyres.

I tried the travel agents on V's and they were fine. Bit fiddly.

KleinMadChris uses XTR V's with STI levers and although spongy as hell, they work really well.

Think I'm going to do this too. Once they bite, you leave off and they don't over sponge.

I had mini-v´s on my Principia cc, but did´t like the feeling. They were too soft and did´t return well enough.

Not quite - it's a mud clearance issue. Wide profile cantis can be set up with the pads miles away from the rim, which you can't do with Vs.
We all know that cantis aren't that much cop stopping-wise so we just set them up for mud clearance and stay off the brakes.
Not much use if you're using it a lot on the road, I'll grant you

that's what's decided it for me. trying to stop yesterday at the bottom of the steep hill i live on before joining the road at the bottom. I'm not sure who was more scared, me or the driver that thought I wasn't going to ride up teh pavement instead of over their bonnet.

Cyclo cross was the winter thang before mountain bikes were even thought of. How well we old gits remember the names like Keith Mernickle, John Atkins, Chris Dodd and Dave Nye.
