cyclocross brakes on mtn bikes

Opinions, please...

Has anyone ever run 'frogleg' cantis on a mtn bike? I'm thinking of these...

If so, what kind of levers? Canti or V-brake?

I think you ll have to run canti levers . cant see why it should not work .

Think the Dynatech used to use froglegs on the team bikes BITD IIRC so as long as you've got heel clearance your fine.

They're pretty much how all canti brakes were, such as these old XT brakes

Low profile canti's became popular because
a) they look neater
b) the rider is less likely to catch their legs on them

I presume b) is less of an issue on cyclocross bikes as the canti mounts are further away from the BB than on an MTB.

To answer the original question - canti levers for canti brakes.

I've just put a set of non lo-pro cantis on a MTB and they look lovely, really retro cool, work beautifully too. Go for it I say, but if you use V levers the power will be massive and harsh - over the bars everytime!

David Baker did, he used a 997 lever and a frogleg canti on the rear and XTR combined lever / shifter with XTR M-System brakes on the front.

His own words, "...controlled braking is done with the front, the rear just slows you down a bit..." and I also think it was a little nod to his cyclocross roots.
