Cycling on Top Gear

Lee is a comedian. The Top Gear Trio are barely entertaining presenters, as they underline each time their contrived, formulaic tirades against soft targets fall wider from the mark. The BBC has a responsibility to the public. Cycling safety is not a laughing matter; and though their pathetic and immature approach did not make it one, it was a wasted opportunity to redress an imbalance in their output.

ABSOLUTELY

but TG is just mindless entertainment, and I for one would switch off rather than face endless instructions on what to do, changing behaviours is one thing but methods need to be picked...........

yeah you get the feeling they were not told the whole brief to get them involved, looked genuinely pissed off to me. Puerile as usual but thats what people like innit.

I think you miss the point, Top Gear used to be aimed squarely at the enthusiastic motorist, but these days is just light entertainment based very loosely around travel & motoring. I like it a lot, and I hardly drive at all. Yes, it's semi-scripted, but so what. I loved the cycling piece, precisely because it didn't take itself too seriously, was a bit of a piss take, and was firmly not preaching to anybody. Monty Python did it on an epic scale with the Jesus story and a lot of people missed the point then too. Lighten up - the point was to show that cyclists, motorists, passengers and pedestrians are often all sharing the same space, so let's keep a sense of humour and be polite to each other.

There is no point to Top Gear, so nothing to miss really. It is irritating however when they start off saying they wanted to curb cycling injuries on our roads and then go on to take the piss and offer nowt to the debate. Very very very light entertainment these days.

I think the key word is entertainment.

Becoming a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's that or screaming babies being ripped from screaming women on the other side.

am a 27 year old lad who likes cars ect but iam starting to find tg boring, seams they are trying to hard to be funny at times or trying to hard to act stupid an dumb, some of its funny say 50% an they only seam to mess with hyper type cars now all the time or the odd hot hatch

The opportunity they missed was to be truly radical, and actually feature a serious article about cycling with a constructive approach. They just can't think out of the tin boxes can they?
