I've also done my Humerus in my right arm, and my Collarbone-hard to protect those areas, so I don't bother. I agree with the article that getting more people into cycling is a good thing, and it's really a personal choice on the rider's part what they might want to protect- just depends on how risk averse you are, I guess...
