Crank/bb advice.

Afternoon kids, after some educated views on this.
I have a Centaur crank which I really want to keep, in fact I think it’s the only crank I’ll be happy using. It used to be on a Mavic BB which is ISO and now it’s on a Shimano which is JIS. As you can see from the pic it doesn’t seat as far along as it should, by a few mills so I’m concerned it’s going to screw the crank arms.
I’m a bit limited on bb length and need something 122 upwards I think but really main concern is if the current set up is likely to f it up.

Although it's not ideal, I've seen literally hundreds of campagnolo cranks fitted on shimano bbs.

The other way round is a killer because the campag taper will eventually pull through to the bolt,
but this way round, assuming you fit it with grease and decent torque, seems ok ... as long as you're not a pro or a clydesdale...

Check tightness from time to time.

You can always look out for the correct bb, and swap it out when one becomes available.

Well I’m certainly not a pro, but it will be ridden properly most weekends so needs to be durable and dependable.
I didn’t grease it though, I was worried it would encourage the cranks to slip on more and deform the tapers.

Ultimately, you need to do what you're comfortable with.

Some people can't get along knowing there's the wrong part fitted, even if it probably doesn't matter
(there's always a risk... even with the right components!)

Some people just don't care, whatever's cheapest and easiest.

We sometimes have to predict which way a customer leans
(if we can't raise them by phone).

To tell the truth its usually quite easy if you look at their bike😉

I know this may sound strange but why not buy an iso BB for peace of mind? Depending on your BB you may even be able to get an axle?

I don't like bodges, right tools for the job etc. I'd not be comfortable in the knowledge I could be causing damage when it could be avoided.

Well you’re quite right - I am trying to find one, just was getting bored of looking and thinking of forgetting about it as it seemed to be working ok.
