Some hi-vis, however obscured, is better than none. But you could be a mobile Xmas tree, and it's guaranteed that if you are hit by a car they "didn't see you there, mate". Unlike self driving car AI, many human drivers just don't notice other road users except those in cars.

I also see lots of cyclists riding with saddle/bar bags that cover lights.
I cover my bike in high vis/reflective stickers.

This has been a game changer for my road night riding. It flashes and I've covered it in reflective leopard print. Cars can see me for miles and give me lots of space.

I've always had a light on the back of my lid. It adds a second visual target, that's moving around. not as much use from the side as your Tron lid.

Bristol is full of random-riding escooters and illegal e- bikes, all dressed in black with poor lighting.

I say Great!
They force those road users who have taken over a ton of metal with them on their journey to pay proper attention!
They aren't going to hit me if they've already got a scooterist wedged in the grille.

I see it a little differently (not a lot mind). they will piss off drivers enough that they'll simply stop caring. It won't be the dick doing 30 without pedalling on his dodgy E-bike that get's hit, it'll be poor me who actually stopped at the red light that get's smashed in to (this has happened a few times now. once the driver actually asked "why did you stop, you are on a bike?).

I see this a lot, but the remaining visible area is better than nothing with the donkey jacket sort.

We did have to pull a lassie the other day to let her know her lovely florescent fluorescent cycling jacket was all but invisible thanks to a black pack, hat and bottoms. No lights either, and I didn't have spares with me to give her like we normally do. She runs at my wife's club, so was happy to take the input, and we saw her earlier at running showing off her new pack and lights!

I should probably sort some new retroreflective strips. Next traffic cone I see is going to get it removed. (don't do this, unless it's already dead in a Ditch, no cone deserves the indignity of being left naked on the side of the road).
