When did uk bike makers generally stop using cottered cranks, excuse my ignorance of uk bike makers? Was this the 70's? Or before?
 
There were still loads of cottered cranks about on new cheaper bikes during the time I worked in the bike shop during the 70's and just into the 80's

The more upmarket Raleigh / Carlton / Falcon were cotterless though.

Yeah! i remember seeing cottered cranks on bike's in the early 80's and probably it was around 83 when i saw the last one ..

I was trying to date a Pashley ice cream tricycle work bike (don't ask!) from a photo and all pashley's look like the 1950's to me :D

It didn't help but the photo was of a completely disassembled bike, like to see pic?

It it not mine, These are the owners photos, he doesn't know how old it is, he did say he had photos of how it goes together though! :shock:
