What do you reckon to the Deore brakes? I reckon they're fab, especially for the money.

mate for £40 wheel from CRC they are spot on! Ive several hope sets at 3 times the price and these perform better!

the calipers are a bit bulky and black but hey... that's a minor issue!

Good stuff - I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

I'd have trouble justifying my XT brakes over the Deores now. The Deores deal with crashes better too because they don't have the raised lettering. I just wish I had the latest ones so that I had the option of running Ice Tech pads.

Looks superb. I built a duck egg soul just the same over Christmas with a SID, XT, Thompson and and XTR shadow plus rear mech. I have such fun on my retro that I wanted something that gave a similar feel but with modern brakes and fork. I love it but with my lack of skill I keep thinking "that was close" as it just encourages you to be totally reckless. I bought a small and use a layback post and an 80mm stem. I was hoping it would feel a bit more poppy on the front, but what with the weather I have not ridden it enough times to get used to it. Cracking bike - hope you enjoy it!
