Re: what happened to Cornwall MTB club race series
i was on the last committee of CMTB and used to run the kids races + race in vets.
I can recall race venues at St Kew, Looe, Colwith, Dunmere, St Ives, Launceston, Tehidy, there were generally 7 or 8 events per season.
toward the last few years of existence, the race series became a victim of its own success in that it peaked at 220+ sign ons at Tehidy.
As a completely voluntary set up, the amount of work was becoming excessive for the few that were prepared to help, but i recall one of our biggest concerns was that of insurance.
Down hill was starting to take off and members were calling for downhill events, but our insurance was always an issue in that we would never hold an event without it , but we really did not want to test how good it was. It was considered that the committee members might be personally responsible were the insurance cover not honored for some reason.
So regrettably we finally called it a day.
It was a tremendous race series with many fond memories for me and my family (the Kays) who would be involved all weekend from set up/sign on to packing up.
Still have my race bike - diamond back wcf carbon, + Amp B3 and Amp B5, and can often be seen riding them around Cardinham.
