Hello
Anyone out there use to race in the summer series? I have great memories of these, stopped when I moved away for Uni, are they still going I wonder?

You could contact Steve on Shred magazine http://www.shredordead.com and see if he knows of anyone or anything

He's pretty much the voice of mountain biking in the South-west and shred had been going since around 1995 the new issue is online now as well :)

did my first race at Tehidy in '95 in the youth cat. Dunmere followed didn't do the 3rd one, then St Kew nr Wadebridge. Did them all the following 2 years as a junior. After '97 it basically died. The clubs originators wanted to pass the baton (understandably) but no-one was really keen to take on the work. I rode for John Towl Cycles in Launceston. Also did the On-a-bike winter series and 1 or 2 of the SAMS though they were normally way "up country"! Raced at Newnham whenever I could -ace courses.

I popped into a bike shop in launceston last week to use their shock pump... cant be that many shops in Launceston?

I did a trelawnee (sp!) woodlands race around 95-96 that I believe was part of that series & yeh did a fair amount of the s.west series around that 92-96 timescale too :)

I remeber when steve toze started shred, grown a lot since then ;) <edit, the mag i mean not steve  edit>
seen him blow up a few times on some of the longer dartmoor plym uni rides bitd ;)

Thanks Snooks..My friend was snapped going over the bars in one copy of Shred I remember.
Sam, I remember St.Kew was an ace course. I did my first race under 'Junior' and promptly got my ass kicked! so I settled for the fun level, which actually ended up rather competitive! I think lower level 'Sport' guys were relishing the glory of winning the fun level or something! Newnham was an ace course, I saw a couple of Grundigs there, John Tomac!

I got my first bike from Penzance Cycle Centre, but lived up in Newquay..which was a bit lacking in MTB shops!

Ah memories!

Anybody remember racing at Kitt Hill near Callington, LOL, I remember freezing my a$$ off in the wind up there in the car park - & the hill climbing back up the back of the hill, awsome.

Cheers,

TSC.

TSC ....... the kit hill race........ was that the one with the hill that was rediculously steep just before the end, the one you had to crawl up on all fours just to stop slipping back down again?

Cannot remember any racing by have a vague recollection of some dude riding down in the old tin mines in cornwall, a brace of ever ready lights on the front of very cut down bars i seem to think. Anyone else remember this or am I going crackers?
