Wow, fair bit of deabte here. Good to see although I'll admit I've only skim read the first 300 pages.

Anyhow quite interested to see the Big S coming out as cool thus far. As such thought I'd drop this picture into the thread.

I've just realised that my missus's's (I'm obsessed with s's!) bike has a complete DX groupset on it. Although it is locked away in the loft on a turbo as not to scare the kids.

Oh the shame.

It doesn't look good though.

It looks like It's designed to last twenty years,by a technicion in an office in Japan. Where's the passion and soul? Infact you couldn't have found a worse bit of kit to try and proove your flimsy cool theory.

That's an old trick now

Tell us what you think by all means

- It's not a theory, it's an opinion and it's not flimsy

- How do you know there's no passion and soul?

- And what MTB group does have passion and soul?

It's all engineering to acheive a purpose

Some's better than others - This stuff (XT, not my particular kit) has been used by countless Champions

This particular kit's been doing the job for 20 years

I'd rather bin it to be honest.


I feel such a fool! if I had read the list of bikes you own, I would never have got into this in the first place.

I'm a aware that cool is purely subjective, although I'm wondering if you may have had a taste bypass at some point.

We are so far appart when it comes to cool that this relationship looks destined to fail.

I still like you as a friend though.
