..... not related to the issue with the cones, but is it my imagination the lacing pattern and some spoke heads look strange on that?

Yes, just blown the pic up. There are no spoke heads on 3 that I can see. Think its 40 hole 3 cross. We need to see both flanges inside and out that is not safe.

Wheel looks like it's had a few repairs.

The spokes without the heads look like replacements was done with witchcraft, tin snips, and without taking the freewheel off.

Yes, not nice or very safe. Not too bad if they are the only ones. They need replacing though. Looks like the spokes have been peened over the flange.

Spoke replacement like that was common when there was no way to remove the freewheel.

As a get you home fine. Permanent fixture, no.

Looks like it was only the reaLr wheel that was the issue. I checked the front and all spokes appeared fine. Which ties in with Drthe freewheel removal issue (which I managed to obviously remove so hopefully I can rectify this too now)

A few pictures from both sides of the rear wheel and some in between spokes. From what I can see there are three spokes that would need replacing. I think

Looks like only 3 and on the same side, happy days. Take a good spoke out and measure it, when you buy spokes buy more than you need. Measure from the inside of the elbow to the end.
