Chromed 853 frame

Retro Newbie
Evening all,

I posted a while back about an 853 frame I purchased off eBay for a bargain with a stuck seatpost and a horrid factory 90s Yellow NY Taxi Cab paint job...

Here is what I have now! Underneath that paint is a fully chromed frame, with next to no scratches and no rust spots! Still doing a bit of work on the seatpost and should be ready to catch the sun brilliantly in Spring/Summer.

Re:

Well, for the last few years, my road bike for 'best' has been a Trek SLR1400 with a 105 groupset and pants wheels! I am going to transfer the 105 over and I have recently bought some new wheels (Cero AR30s) so this will most definitely be a for best bike, I don't think I am going to do a lot with it, I have the 853 decals which will go on but I am digging the chrome look.

My only concession to the build is buying some 1" carbon forks. After buying the frame about 9 months ago I have been scouring the web trying to find some good affordable steel forks to no avail.

The seatpost has been the biggest issue, the guy selling informed me that it was stuck but when I asked to what extent he said he hadn't tried to get it out. Fair enough I though, might be a simple job. It is like it has been welded in! It is being filed out!

Here are some photos as the frame was when I got it. The photos of the frame in its current state just weren't doing it justice! I'll add some photos once the build is complete.

Well done you!
Take a chance on ebay & sometimes you win something good! (Knowledge helps here)
Great job & we can all find these items if we bother to look, & pay some serious attention; )
I'm sure you will have many hours of happy cycling with it.

Let us all know how it turns out plz: )
That's the real story innit??

Re:

Wanted to give you all an update after a few weeks of riding.

I love it! It isn't perfect, the whole groupset could do with an upgrade, but I ride with a massive smile on my face. It is holding its own with the carbon machines my mates ride, not too much heavier but definitely stands out. It climbed lovely, and felt so responsive on the downhills. Maybe invest in a new groupset in the near future but for a build that totalled £700 (wheels costing £380 of that) I am one very happy rider.

I am becoming a total bike bore and take pictures of it everywhere I go like a proud parent.
