Charge your glass - Steve Peat is world Champ

He won lots of stuff on a rigid kona, including national races iirc....

And if you're proper retro you'll remember when he was called Sketch...

The replays on freecaster, peaty's run is at about 1.36 and you'll definitely want to see Warners interview with him afterwards, they were nearly blubbing on each other.... :D :D :D

Before the mods move this, I wonder whether anyone has recollections of Steve Peat riding in retro times. He's certainly a retro rider, even if he wasn't riding a retro bike!

I remember a video I saw with him riding singletrak DH on a GT LTS with red Rockshox DH forks and onza canti brakes. No idea what the vid was called tho.

Getta grip  (an mbuk effort)

That's the one! It was a freebie with the mag one month if I remember correctly. Had a quick look for it on youtube but couldn't find it.

EDIT: I found itttt!!!!

i used to race against him in the early days at the NEMBA's and BMBF's , usually leaving me for dust . he was a bloody good XC rider before he shot to stardom in Downhill and has been at head of the pack ever since . he has the all time record of world cup wins which is 18 i think ? and i think iv'e seen that he's recognised as britain's most succesful cyclist .
Not bad ! good on ya Peaty

Well done Mr Peat! I think Brad Wiggins and Mark Cavendish might argue with you about who britains most succesful cyclist is  but deffo MTBer :D
Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish have both been sucessful , i think what i read was based on what major results were held . He has been national champ 8 times , overall world cup minner 3 times , won 17 W/C races and 50 podiums , european champ 3 times and now world champ .apart from having an olympic title for obvious reasons he has got a clean sweep . i don't know of any other cyclist that holds that many titles , i may be wrong . apart from that i think at the moment british cycling in general is at an all time high in all catergories , far more than in a lot of other sports .

Long time coming, but well deserved.

The guy can retire knowing that he has acheived his lifetime goal.

I hate DH racing, but you cant take away from the guy that he is a legend.

Well done Peaty.

even if i would have prefered a frenchman to win it , I am pleased for Peat . he deserves it .

Have a feeling he was at Sheffield Hallam early/ mid ninties and I raced against him in the student champs in '95 I think. Pretty sure he came in the top 3, but he did start at the front ;-)
