Chain Reaction Cycles.....doh

Always had excellent service from CRC. I would like to support my LBS, but when the price difference is SO great, I just can't justify it.

On a slightly different note, I had a link for a website that was bike specific and scanned all the bike shop websites for the cheapest prices on parts, but I lost it. :( Does any one know the site I mean?

Sod them ,they've had their day[/quote]

just remember the next time you need a desperate repair on your bike so you can ride the weekend, what you said about your lbs

Local bike shop? That'll be Bromley Bikes - wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive, I'm happy to work on all my bikes myself, bar wheel building.

Still need to find a top notch wheel builder in London, Richard Kent at Caygills in Richmond did all my other wheels but he's retired now :(

Never had any problems with chain reaction always had great service from them if they ever had a problem with my order they always gave me a call...

As for my local bike shop you guys need to do what i do and ask to look at the old stuff taken off bikes they service or repair... Most of the kit works perfect and you can get it for next to nothing, most of the time they are glad to get rid of the stuff. Great for Retro builds.

I'm good friends with two local bike shop owners and suggestively send them all kinds of customers but I wouldn't let them touch my bikes with a 10' wrench. As was stated above....if you are into older build up bike projects half the fun and enjoyment comes from piecing them together and conquering the tasks at hand.

I use Chain Reaction and one (just one) of my LBS. The LBS because it's excellent and Chain Reaction because it has such a wide range and such low prices. But to be fair, when you compare the net vs LBS, it's only CR that beats the LBS - if you bought on line from Evans, say, it would cost you more than the LBS.

As far as CR sending the wrong item, I expect the software prints out the item reference and some fortunate soul has to go and find ZX1089CF23 on a shelf and some other fortunate soul has to check it and put it in a box. Human beings make mistakes, maybe they sent you a ZX1089CF32. Ideally they'd use some kind of a scanner like they have in Tesco to make sure it's what was ordered. One day, the computers won't need humans and then we'll be abolished.

I've always found them pretty good. They did send me the wrong gear cable once, but when I told the chap I needed it for the weekend they mailed me another using 'next-day' delivery - must have cost them more than the thing was worth.
