Chain oiling - how do you do it?

Just wondering what sage approaches are taken:

- traditional "boil chain in engine oil for a week and then leave to drip dry"?

- "painstakingly oil each roller but try to avoid anything on the side plates"?

- "a quick spray of GT85 and away I go"?

- "3in1 - it was good enough for my dad and it's good enough for me"?

- "Oil? Dry lube is where it's at"?

- "just drizzle oil everywhere and deal with the mess on bike and rider later"?

Any others? And what do you find works best?

My preferred method. ... then , wearing a pair of white kid gloves, run the chain between thumb and index finger to ensure clean outer side plates, for inner plates I use cotton buds, having first reduced them in girth with a scalpel.
 
I wait until the noise is embarassing. Then I leave it a bit more and then scab some Castrol GTX from a nice retrobiker in the carpark before the ride. That's it sorted for another year.

I do remember reading that it is important to wait for ten minutes or so after oliing before riding the bike.

Edit. Just noticed this is in the road bike section. This doesn't really change anything.
 
Generally liberal application of GT85 if I'm running late - so normally always. On the odd occasion I'm not I'll use something like finish line dropped on to the chain, excess wiped off with rag.
 
I find GT85 strips everything off the chain leaving very little actual lube. I'm thinking of going back to oil as opposed to the modern dry lubes I've been using of late. They seem to go black very quickly but in terms of chain lube they do seem quite good.

after a ride or having cleaned the chain I blast it with GT85 and leave it for a while.
then I turn a bottle of Finishline Wet Lube upside down and rest the nozzle on the chain (inner links) whilst slowly backpeddalling the crank, as each link passes the nozzle a little blob of lube is deposited onto the link. I usually start at the quick link/snap link on the chain so I know where I started/where to finish. Usually this suffices, if the chain needs more I do the same on the "other side" of the chain by resting the nozzle of the lube bottle on the links as they go over the rear cassette.
Once done I run the chain through a rag to get rid of any excess lube.

It's what I do too.
 
Spray some GT85 on a rag and run the chain through to wipe off any crud first, apply Finish Line roller-by-roller and then wipe-off the excess. I try and avoid spraying GT85 directly onto the chain as it can flush-out the lube inside the rollers - but when faced with a squeaky chain minutes before a ride out comes the aerosol!
